This popular outdoor adventure has been called the best kept secret in the Flint Hills! True stories, harrowing incidents, local history, along with plant identification, utilitarian uses, and recipes are all part of the fascinating hiking adventures along the trail. The trek is a short and easy hike along a well-defined trail. Fishing plants, fire-starting plants and tools, Kansas bananas, sumac lemonade, sweet water from a grape vine, medicines, poisons, life-saving information, and a visit to an Indian Earth Lodge are all part of the trek. Wear comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. Bring a notebook, pen, camera, and a field guide if you have one. Bring a full water bottle for each person. Other optional items you might want to bring include a walking stick and collection bag for samples to press.
